In many ways I’m grateful for our individual gifts and passions, because it’s through these that you make friends and get connected. Ishtar Olivera Belart holds a beautiful gift. She is a brilliant illustrator, crafter, mother and photographer and is genuinely sweet. I was so pleased to have met her and to hear that she would be interested in sharing some of her work with us all. Ishtar, a Spanish 32-year-old artist living in the UK has a natural hand in making things beautiful. Read for yourself…
Some Questions…
I see you do illustrations as well as photography. How did it all begin? Did you always know that is what you wanted to do? I´ve always loved to paint, but it was actually something that evolved in a natural way with time. With photography for example, was because of the blog. I wanted to improve the photos I showed on the blog so I practiced a lot and eventually got my self a better camera. What is a normal day like for you? I´m an early riser. I love to wake up when everyone is still asleep and have that time for my self. Then I prepare my kids breakfast and get them ready for school. When I return I work with the computer on the projects I´m on at that moment. Cook lunch at 1, pick up my kids at school at 3 and then just work for a couple more of hours. After that we do some crafts together or go to the park. What inspires you? Color, music, nature, tenderness, compassion…Who inspires you? Do you have a favourite artist or person? Creative people. The beautiful, brilliant ideas and projects they come up with. I see how amazing human beings can be and the wonderful things we are capable of creating. In the world of illustration and photographs, do you find it hard to make your mark? Yes. And I used to be concerned about this in the beginning but not anymore. Because I´m happy who ever I reach. Even if it’s just one person. And if it makes a difference in them, then I feel my work is done. But its funny, what starts to happen when you commit to your self, to your beliefs, to your art, and when you create from the heart.. things seem to fall into place and you start finding your own voice out there. (Ishtar, I love the way you said it) . Do you have a support network of fellow creative’s? I do have some friends who are crafters or artists and we support one another, but I don’t have what is properly called a network. What is your favourite piece…or is that an unfair question? My creations are like my children, I love them all. But it’s also true sometimes I can feel more identified with a certain piece. Right now I´m specially fond of My “compassion” watercolour bunny. I read on your blog that you have children, how do you manage to juggle kids, work, home and leisure AND find the time to unwind and re-group yourself to be more creative? I have to say it was more difficult when my kids where toddlers, but now that they have grown up, they play a lot together and with friends, so that gives me plenty of time to do my things. After 5 I´m done with work and I belong to them : ) What can you say to inspire someone interested in illustration or photography? Read, learn, practice, explore…all of these are great advices..but also, don’t forget to do what feels right for you. Allow your creativity to grow and expand without bounds. And just let things flow..make your process of creating enjoyable…Because thats when you allow your true self to unfold naturally and find your genuine voice. I once read a quote I loved, I don’t remember the author but it said something like this : “ When I wrote books for others, nobody wanted them. Then I wrote books for my self and everybody loved them”.
Ishtar has also written many Craft Tutorials so please go to her blog for more info on them.
You can also check out her website here, her blog here and her shop here.

Being an artist is being able to explore and interpret the beautiful world out and within.
You will find some beautiful photographs, so sincerely taken and captured. Having started her blog and wanting to improve with photography you can see how it inspired her to venture more and more into creativity, arts and crafts and stunning photography. What I love about Ishtar is her unique sense of style. Her sweet chinese influenced illustrations and her truthful names of each art piece shows a real and transparent character that is who she is and loves it just the same. Passionate mother, inspired artist and craft enthusiast, it’s no wonder she has been featured on many other platforms including MiCasa a spanish magazine, vtwonen, decor8 and Kireei to name but a few…
And who wouldn’t get inspired working from this beautiful workspace below? Ishtar does ship internationally, so her work can reach your paws no matter where you are. (great news!) I love the Rain Drops illustration, and the Compassion Bunny is gorgeous as well as the postcards, stamps, her owls and oh, so much more. Ishtar, thank you for sharing about yourself, your work, your family and your passion. You have inspired me and I am sure many other readers. I fell in love with your illustrations and crafts. It’s been a real pleasure to meet you and your sincere look on life. Thank you!
Hello! It’s Monday but don’t be blue, I have some interesting designs for you. Take a peak of the Aviator furniture collection and others by Restoration Hardware.

Ok, I know this might be the daughter of a pilot in me but it oozes masculinity and is quite unique. This is for the men readers! These designs inspired by fighter planes from the padded distressed whiskey leather seats (even that sounds all man!) to the wrapped aluminium which holds intended dents and nicks.
Here below, is the 1950′s Copenhagen Spitfire chair. Wow, I LOVE it. Aluminium – clad back with steel screws, swivels 360 degrees and upholstered with supple aged leather.
And if that does not blow your hair back, what about this fabulous Devon Hair-on-hide Chair below? Inspired by Danish design and the mid-century, this cow hair front complimented by a wrapped hide back, stands proud and strong, soft and handsome all in one sentence! It is my favourite…though a tough choice I might add!
Explorer has taken on a whole new meaning and is no longer giving me this picture of a skinny legged man with knee-high socks and a hard hat, waving his glasses around while searching a map. But has in fact given me a calm, safe and handsome approach to adding a little aviation design and explorer decor. Restoration Hardware‘s pieces holds warm and fabulous creativity that oozes masculinity, historic style and unique taste.
I take my hat off to these 4 artisans, Jefferson Mack, Timothy Oulton, Raymond Libeert and Ben Soleimani for creating wow-factor designs and using high quality materials. You just know they wont settle for anything less. It Seems CEO & Chairman Gary Friedman can genuinely smile knowing that all involved at RH hold great value for their work as well as hold out-the-box creativity and enjoy facing the challenges of the design and the creation. I am convinced the future holds us standing with our mouths wide open as we get introduced to more unique design and craftsmanship from Restoration Hardware.
All photographs and information is from Restoration Hardware and I urge you all to go and see their meticulous work. The detail and workmanship are perfected and breathes out nothing but utter brilliance. Top notch I say.
Hello everyone. How has your week been so far? Can you believe it is Friday already?
To add some colour and freshness into your friday, I thought I would first ask if you are a lover of paint or wallpaper? I find wallpaper beautiful. I have not used it yet but I feel the urge to do something bold. Not everyone likes wallpaper. Many use them for purposes other than on a wall. However you use it and no matter what you feel about it, you can’t deny that it’s bold and even if sometimes busy, it can look classic and elegant.
The history of wallpaper is quite interesting and it’s influence comes from tapestry. Because not everyone in the old days could afford tapestries, wallpaper was eventually designed. It started from paintings that were often pasted on walls instead of being framed or hung and which were hand painted on hundreds of separate sheets of paper. It progressed to hand-printed paper using hand-carved blocks. This hand-blocked wallpaper technique is now known as wood blocked wallpaper. In 1785 the first machine which printed coloured tints, was invented and in 1799 the machine that printed continuous sheets of paper, was patented.
Now you know a little more on whats behind the paper…and personally I like it a bit more now because I understand where the ‘flavour’ comes from.

All photographs from House to Home.
They say all great things started in a garage…I would like to use that statement for this talented artist. Chantelle started her creativity at school where she was awarded the art prize. She became an Architect and in later years, when arriving back from her travels Chantelle wanted to further her Architectural studies but had difficulties getting enrolled because of the strict system protocols. Because the Architecture route had stopped for the time being she put her focus on art and started painting. She has not looked back as her first painting, Kissing Cows was sold immediately! It is a pleasure to get to know Chantelle and to be honest I am quite blown away by her natural talent…AND it got re-establish in her garage! (smile)
Below: Kissing Cows
What inspires you? Other artists, any hand-made art or hand crafted items from cakes to furniture! (she smiles and thinks…) Not everyone paints to sell their art, some paint because they just passionate about it. That’s why I would like to start an online shop as my dream is to give artists a voice. How do you keep motivated? If I struggle I stop…if there is a deadline I just carry on. It’s not painful as I enjoy doing it! What motivates me is to realise what I am able to do and then to see the outcome. What kind of subjects do you enjoy painting the most? Faces and human expression. There are so many emotions that come through somebody’s face. My final matric piece were faces. I like working super big! Do you have a favourite artist or style? Yes, Scottish artist Jack Vettriano his work is sensual, French artist Francious Nielly and South Africa artist Phillip Barlow. Do you enjoy other forms? Yes, illustrations, charcoal sketches and memory lane drawings. They say all great things started in a garage…tell us about your studio space? Our garage is bigger than most. I share it with the laundry and washing machine. Luckily my booster reaches there! (we laugh and eat more yummy carrot cake) Advice for an artist? What I wish I had done more of – practised! Even if you think you not good at it, work with your style, your eye. They say if you do something for 10 000 hours, you become an expert…so start now. Also know that not everyone will love your art. What has been your most recent work? The Boats 1,2 &3 as well as the Pelicans and Flower&Aloe oil paintings for a house in Ballito. If you could choose art for your home (apart from your own) what would they be? Phillip Barlow for the lounge and a Jack Vettriano for the bedroom.

A little bit of Chantelle…
Sundays are too short. My pillow is my baby. Richard Branson & Trevyn McGowen is who I would like to have coffee with. To paint is to breath. My favourite place to relax is at home or at the beach. I never leave my house without my keys! (we laugh) Art is very personal. Wisdom by Andrew Zuckerman is a brilliant book I recommend.{Might I add that not only does she have a deep passion for creativity, wisdom and art but she plays the piano to relax and is a fantastic baker! Chantelle made the most delicious carrot cake especially for our interview. She has won my heart.}
If you would like to contact Chantelle please see her details above or to follow Chantelle on Facebook click here, South Africa Artists here and Twitter here. Her website will be up and running shortly which will be added to our Directory page on Creative Stream.
Thank you Chantelle for sharing your work and your passion. We look forward featuring more of your work! You are a breathe of fresh air!

Once again I have to mention the most beautiful and creative wedding dresses I have EVER seen.
Not only do these Italians know how to romance but they also know how to bring that very essence into these wedding dresses and they work with stunning, sensual fabric to compliment the mood of your special day. Though Creative Stream is not a fashion blog, it does value creativity and I must say, I’m still blown away by Le Spose di Gio‘s beautiful 2011 range…I cannot wait to see 2012!
So for those getting married here is some inspiration.

Behind almost every creative form is a story that inspires. Angel shares with us about her journey and her venture into beautiful stationary…read for yourself…
What is Write Robinson about? Tell us how it all began. Write Robinson is a full service company that designs and sells couture stationery using fine papers from around the world. At its core, Write Robinson exists to help people connect with their loved ones using a medium worthy of the connection. The company motto is, “Your words are important; the paper should be too.” This motto has not changed since the first day.
I decided to pursue this dream called Write Robinson in late summer of 2005 when I lost my home to Hurricane Katrina. The idea had swarmed around in my head for years, but I kept putting off starting until tomorrow. I lived in a hotel room for three months after the storm which afforded me lots of time to think. While there, I made the decision to drastically change my life. I didn’t return to my government job when asked and I threw myself into paper. Eventually, I left the hotel and moved into a tiny apartment which I filled with rolls of paper, supplies, and tools. I started creating the prototypes of what is now my signature look. That period in my life was so amazing. Every day, I worked on inspiring projects with no regard to outside trends, what would sell, or if anyone liked it other than me. I listened to my inspiration. I believe that discovering your own design voice is critical to developing confidence in what you create.
Tell us a bit about yourself? My name is Angel Robinson and I am the founder of Write Robinson, a couture stationery design studio. I was born and reared in New Orleans, Louisiana in the United States. In school, I was known as one of the intellectuals. I took pride in the quest for perfect scores and high marks. At home, I learned how to be creative from my grandmother, Isabella Robinson. She taught me to cook, sew, garden, and crochet. In the beginning like all students, I was not very good. It was from her lessons that I learned to appreciate the process of creating and the imperfections along the way. Often the best results came from abandoning the original plan when serendipity moves you in a different direction. Being creative means honing your skills while following your gut instincts. It was during the lessons in crafting and cooking, I learned that your economics do not limit your life nearly as much as not being able to take what you have and make something beautiful.
Although I knew in eighth grade I wanted to become an entrepreneur, my first career choice was in government. Upon receiving a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning and Historic Preservation, I accepted a position working in the New Orleans’ Mayor’s Office in 1999 and remained there until Hurricane Katrina flooded the city in 2005.Currently, I am founder, owner, and creative designer of Write Robinson Couture Stationery. With my career in government, I knew that I would never have true happiness until I followed my true passion which is to create stationery from beautiful paper.
What makes your paper unique or Is there a quality at Write Robinson that is unique? Write Robinson is unique because I see stationary as a sensual experience. It should not only delight the eye, but the touch as well. I believe that paper that feels good in the hand is just as important as designs that look pretty. Sometimes texture is most important to me.
Because stationery is inherently a product that my clients will give away, I want to make sure that it represents the best of who they are by bringing the best of what I can do to every step of the process from design to delivery.
How does what you do, make you more and more creative? What drives you daily? Being an entrepreneur and designer makes me more creative because I’m constantly surrounded by inspiration. Also, every time a new client comes, I challenge myself to give them something they weren’t expecting. Sometimes that requires me to step outside my comfort zone; but, in the end, the result is always worth the extra effort. What drives me daily is the constant desire to want to be better at what I do. I love paper. I love stationery. I love making my clients happy. There’s nothing better than getting a thank you note from a happy client! I’m driven by the passion I have for creating beautiful stationery and driven by the desire to be a successful entrepreneur.
It must be hard work, keeping a business going and still feeling free to be creative without the pressure of having to make ends meet. How do you break away from it all or relax and re-gain inspiration? The pressure to make ends meet is real and sometimes overwhelming. This pressure can cause some people to make hasty decisions or to compromise their core company mission or design style just to bring in money. I’ve resisted that urge at every angle which is difficult in the lean months. Therefore, when I want to unplug from it all, I love nothing more than to be with my friends. I love a good chat and a good laugh. All I need is a cup of coffee and a laugh with one of my girlfriends and my batteries are recharged. On days and times when no one is available, I am a magazine junkie so a pile of good ones will keep me occupied for hours!
What’s the best thing about what you do? The best thing about what I do is just that I do it. I remember when having my own stationery business was merely a dream I talked about while working away in City Hall. Even on the days when I feel down, I can always take pride in the fact that I took a chance to follow my dreams and my passion and see where this road leads. On my website, I say that “Write Robinson is my dream come true.” Not one day expires without me knowing in my soul that those words are true.
Name one word to explain why you love what you do? Freedom (to live, to love, to create, all on my own terms)
If you could have coffee with-who would it be? Oprah Winfrey
If you could encourage a person to go with their dream, what would you say? I would tell that person that life is not promised. If you don’t die today, tomorrow will happen. So do you want tomorrow to arrive and you’ve done nothing or do you want it to get here and you’ve at least made a baby step towards your dream? I would say to know what your goal is and never waiver from your core beliefs. The world doesn’t need another imitation when the authentic you hasn’t been unleashed. And finally I would say, never ever give up. Do not put your dream on a shelf and keep it safe for the perfect day or perfect moment. There are no perfect moments to start. There is only now. And now is the time to get off the sofa, straighten yourself up and make that dream a reality. One baby step at a time.

I say this after almost every interview, that it’s so fantastic to meet so many people from around the world. It makes me smile to have been able to share what they do and I can honestly say I’m a blessed blogger!
Don’t you just LOVE it when you find something special that you think no one might know about but realise they probably have because hey, it’s so stunning, they must have come across it!? Well whether you have ever heard of Madam Stoltz or not, here is the link to Pernille’s stunning catalogue and MUST HAVE’S for your home. I simply smile at every single item.
Their products are so beautiful.
I am not sure if they send to South Africa, But if you are in England, Finland, France, Israel, Benelux, Norway, Czech Republic or Scandinavia they have a local contact there for you… Go check out their website.

Deciding to reupholster my old Grafton Everest sofas in leather or material of sorts has got me looking for some inspiring ideas. We have had too much feedback with why we must not recover with leather and rather buy a brand new leather sofa…but there is something delightful about keeping the most comfortable lounge suite in the world, within the family and passing it down generations. So I’m inspired for something different and to give those sofas a bit of love instead of getting something new.
If you are looking for a great upholsterer; Aurthar R & Sons is a great place in Durban, Sea Cow Lake: 031-577 6848.

Hello everyone, welcome to a new week. It’s Tuesday already and this week is busy!
You know, I always enjoy finding new ideas and ways of creating a working environment at home that suits my needs and my way of life. Not everyone can have a perfectly neat work space especially if you have teens or kids wanting to play around on your computer and desk…But in most cases (on head space) I think it’s essential that you have a creative space or work area at home that allows you to work productively, creatively and happily! All these examples I have chosen are unique and stunning. Which ones suit you best?
